About Us

As the Mat-Su Sea Hawkers, we are dedicated to uplifting the youth of the Mat-Su Valley through focused community outreach and support. Our mission centers on creating opportunities that encourage health, wellness, leadership, and personal growth in young people. With the exception of our involvement in Sea Hawkers/Seahawks Alaska Community Outreach, all of our funding is directed exclusively toward local youth needs. We actively support participation in sports, educational programs, and community events, while fostering a spirit of volunteerism and positive engagement. Through these efforts, we strive to be a catalyst for community betterment and a strong supporter of accessible, youth-centered opportunities.

About

HOW IT STARTED

In 1976, when the Seattle Seahawks established their team, fans showed interest in forming a booster club. A group of individuals approached the general manager, at the time John Thompson, and proposed a format for a booster club based on the Baltimore Colts boosters. After careful consideration, the Seahawks organization permitted the formation of a booster club. The chosen name was "Sea Hawkers Booster Club." Five chapters were formed in the Seattle area: East, North, Southend, Metropolitan, and South Sound. Following the establishment of the chapters, a central council was created to regulate the rules and by-laws, ensuring uniformity throughout the entire organization.

In 2006, Mat-Su Sea Hawkers formed and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to empowering youth in the Mat-Su Valley and across Alaska. With a mission to support youth health, wellness, and leadership skill development, the organization has become a pivotal force for positive change, fostering opportunities for young individuals while advancing community and social betterment while always championing the Seattle Seahawks team and organization.

Run by an all-volunteer Board of Directors, Mat-Su Sea Hawkers is committed to combating childhood obesity and preventing inappropriate behaviors through innovative, health-focused programs such as the Play 60 Challenge, Seahawks Flag Football, and the Kicks4Kids shoe initiative. Their efforts inspire youth to embrace healthy living through nutrition, active lifestyles, and educational opportunities. In addition, the organization encourages volunteerism, team building, leadership development, and participation in community-based wellness initiatives.

Mat-Su Sea Hawkers' impact is further amplified by the Sea Hawker/Seahawks Alaska 12 Tour Community Outreach, which promotes physical and mental wellness through engagements with Alaska's urban and rural school-age youth, patients at Children's Hospital - Anchorage, Alaska Native Medical Center, Ronald McDonald House, and Alaska-based military personnel. The organization also contributes to local Alaska charities through fundraising efforts.

Thanks to the unwavering support of volunteers, donors, and sponsors, alongside meaningful partnerships with the Seattle Seahawks' players, cheerleaders, and staff, Mat-Su Sea Hawkers continues to serve as a catalyst for youth development and community well-being across Alaska.
